Once a month we round up the top reads and recommendations from our community. Got one to add? Let us know @alignyourorg – and if you want to be not to miss an issue, do subscribe (form at the end).
Culture

Priya Bates kicked off February talking trust as part of the IABC Circle of Fellows – and you can still catch that discussion if you missed it first time round.
But before we get to that, when I was catching up with Priya, she also mentioned that she was enjoying Hilton Barbour’s new ebook on culture. She says: “He’s a marketer who has found his way into change and culture. In his series, he talks to leaders and shares their stories”. I’ve put it on my Kindle.
Common Good

Clare Woodcraft, from the Align Your Org advisory board, is reading Capital and the Common Good: How Innovative Finance Is Tackling the World’s Most Urgent Problems.
Clare recently closed out a six-year stint doing a turnaround of the Emirates Foundation. She moved it from traditional short-term grant making model into venture philanthropy.
If you’re organising a conference and you’re looking for a keynote or a cracking panellist on philanthropy and social good, look no further.
Strategy

Jessica Leigh Jones, one of my fellow students on the Chartered Director programme, is topical as a 2018 Forbes 30 under 30.
As I reached out to congratulate, I naturally asked what she’s reading. She’s busy building Sony’s Factory of the Future – and so it perhaps shouldn’t have surprised me that she shared a Japanese classic: A Book of Five Rings.
Mindware

Lindsay Uittenbogaard – Recommends Mindware Richard Nisbett, Professor of Psychology at the University of Michigan, because, she says: “he totally gets humans” – pointing to a key quote from the book:
“Our understanding of the world is always a matter of inference and interpretation. Our judgements about people and situations, even our perceptions of the physical world, rely on stored knowledge and hidden mental processes and are never a direct readout of reality.”
Lindsay is taking her Mirror Mirror – which links to the above assertion – to Eurocomm in Copenhagen this April. I’ll be there too – and I hope to see you there!
